Former Australian star batsman David Warner has been appointed as the captain of the Karachi Kings team for Pakistan Super League 10. The tournament is scheduled to start on April 11. David Warner was bought by Karachi Kings for US$300,000 in the PSL 2025 auction. This huge bid from Karachi Kings made the star batsman the most expensive player in the history of PSL 2025.
Why was David Warner appointed captain by Karachi Kings?
David Warner is known for his aggressive batting style and vast operational experience. The left-handed batsman has won both the ODI and T20 World Cups and has captained teams in a variety of leagues including the Big Bash League (BBL). Karachi Kings selected him as their first pick in the Platinum category during the scheduled PSL 10 Players Draft on 13 January 2025 at Hazuri Bagh, Lahore.
The team administration also thanked last season’s captain Shan Masood for his efforts in taking the team in a new direction.
David Warner unexpectedly left out of IPL 2025
Despite his impressive career, Warner faced shocking news in the IPL 2025 mega auction. David Warner was released by Delhi Capitals and no team decided to bid on him despite his base price of ₹2 crore. Warner remained a very popular player in other leagues as well and Karachi Kings soon signed him for PSL 10.
David Warner has also been part of Australia’s 2023 World Test Championship and 2015 ODI World Cup winning teams including the 2016 IPL title as captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad.
