On the third day of the ICC WTC Final 2025, Team Australia got a big setback in the beginning of the match, as their brilliant batsman Steve Smith got injured while trying to take a catch, then due to Steve Smith’s injury, he had to leave the ground of Lord’s, London and later he was taken to the hospital for a good scan.
Steve Smith’s injury happened in the last session of the third day, when South African captain Temba Bavuma was playing in the match, then Australia’s fast bowler Mitchell Starc moved towards the slip cordon on the ball. Then Steve Smith moved forward in an attempt to take the catch. However, he not only missed the important catch, but he immediately felt pain in the finger.

After receiving immediate treatment from the Australian team’s medical staff, Steve Smith did not return to the field again for the whole day and later this player was also taken to the hospital for a good scan.
According to Cricket Australia it was revealed that “Steve Smith suffered a compound dislocation of his right little finger while fielding for his team in the slip cordon during the ICC WTC Final against South Africa at Lord’s. After being immediately checked by Australia staff, he was taken to hospital.”
It is worth noting that Steve Smith will not be seen on the field for the fourth day or possibly for the remainder of the final.
