IPL 2025 Points Table

IPL 2025 Points table rules: How IPL point table is calculated?

In this IPL 2025 competition, teams are awarded points based on the result of the match as follows:

  • 2 points awarded to the winning team
  • 1 point for a no result or a match where both teams’ scores are tied (where a Super Over is not possible)
  • 1 point if a match does not start due to external factors
  • 0 points awarded for a losing team or forfeit

Teams are ranked on the points table based on total points, with the team with the highest points finishing at the top.

Tiebreaker rules have been set for equal points

If two or more teams finish with the same number of points, their ranking is determined on the basis of the following rule:

  • Most wins of the last team: The team with the most wins in the season is ranked higher in the points table.
  • Net run rate (NRR) of the team: If wins are also equal, the team with better NRR is ranked higher in the points table.
  • Wickets bowled per fair ball in the match: If NRR is also equal, the team taking more wickets per fair ball bowled is ranked higher in the points table.
  • Drawing lots in the match: If all criteria remain equal, a random draw determines the final ranking in the points table.

Note: The above rule does not include playoff matches in these calculations.

How Net Run Rate calculated as per the below formula:

NRR= (Average runs scored per over) – (Average runs conceded per over)

IPL 2025 playoff match rules are given below:

In case of a tie or no result in the final, eliminator or qualifier matches, the following rules apply:

Super Overs in the match: Teams compete in a Super Over to determine the winner. If necessary, multiple Super Overs will be played.

Points Table position: If Super Overs are not possible due to circumstances, the team that is higher in the points table wins.

Key points of IPL 2025:

  • If a team is all out before finishing its overs, we still count the full number of overs.
  • Only matches with a result count towards NRR.
  • In rain-affected matches, they adjust the targets with the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method.

These points table rules create a fair ranking system. They help decide playoff spots and final standings during the season.
