The 17th match of IPL 2025 was played between DC vs CSK. In this match, CSK had to face defeat by 25 runs. Delhi Capitals won the toss and decided to bat first, thanks to the explosive innings of 77 runs by DC’s star batsman KL Rahul, Delhi scored 183 runs. On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings tried their best to reach the score by chasing the target. Their top batsmen could not make any significant partnership, due to which, Chennai lost by 25 runs.
DC vs CSK 2025: Khaleel Ahmed showed his magic with the new ball in the powerplay
CSK was invited to bowl first and Khaleel Ahmed made a strong start for his team. He has shown good performance with the new ball in this IPL season and he proved what he can do with the new ball by dismissing DC’s powerful hitter batsman Jack Fraser-McGurk.
After four excellent dot balls in his first over, pressure mounted on DC batsmen. In the beginning, the bowler managed the match to some extent, but when CSK’s Mukesh Choudhary came to bowl his spell, he got bowled a lot in the initial overs. His first match did not prove to be good.
KL Rahul scored a brilliant score for DC with explosive batting
After Jake’s wicket in the Capitals vs Super Kings match, Abhishek Porel and KL Rahul made a brilliant partnership of 54 runs. After that Porel lost his wicket to Ravindra Jadeja, while Rahul showed his batting skills and scored a brilliant half-century against CSK. He played a strong innings of 77 runs in 51 balls, while DC captain Axar Patel could add only 21 runs for his team and Sameer Rizvi, Tristan Stubbs scored 20 and 24 runs respectively.
Due to the timely contribution of all these players of DC, Delhi Capitals scored a brilliant score of 183 runs in the first innings. In yesterday’s match, the use of Mukesh Choudhary did not work and he had to suffer 50 runs in his spell without taking any wicket.
Chennai Super Kings batsmen came under pressure while chasing the target
Chennai Super Kings had a very bad start to this season of IPL 2025 and Rachin Ravindra lost his wicket in the second over of the match. Ravindra misjudged the speed of a slow, short-of-length ball bowled by Mukesh Kumar on the leg-stump and the ball went out of the front of the bat very quickly. The slight edge of the ball came to the bowler and Mukesh kept his composure and took a brilliant catch.
After this, CSK suffered a big blow with the wicket of captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. Mitchell Starc’s short ball deceived Gaikwad. The timing was not right and Jake Fraser took a strong catch without hesitation. After that CSK’s score became 2 wickets for 20 runs.
Chennai Super Kings suffered another disappointing defeat this season
CSK never got going while chasing the target in any match of IPL 2025. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals. DC’s brilliant bowler Vipraj Nigam dismissed Devon Conway and Shivam Dubey, before DC’s spin king Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Ravindra Jadeja. Vijay Shankar got a reprieve in the match after two dropped catches, but the required run rate was out of his batting form.
He struggled and scored 69* runs in 54 balls. MS Dhoni also contributed 30* runs, but it was not a contribution to take the match to victory. Eventually, CSK lost by 25 runs and suffered another disappointing defeat. On the other hand, Delhi Capitals registered their third win of the season and with that they topped the IPL 2025 points table.
