IPL 2025 New Rules For Temporary Replacements In The Final Stages Of This Season

IPL 2025 New Rules For Temporary Replacements

IPL 2025 New Rules: IPL has decided to allow franchises to sign players in the new rule for temporary replacements for the final phase of this season. The IPL 2025 season is scheduled to resume on May 17, with the first match scheduled between RCB and KKR at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium

Most of the foreign players will return to India for the remaining matches of IPL 2025 this season, but some veteran players will return to their country due to their national duties and personal reasons, such as Delhi Capitals’ explosive batsman Jake Fraser-McGurk and Chennai Super Kings’ brilliant player Jamie Overton.

IPL 2025 New Rules For Temporary Replacements

In previous seasons of the IPL, many teams could only sign replacements if a player in their squad got seriously injured or ill before their twelfth league stage match of the season. But the current season has introduced new rules to allow teams to bring in temporary replacements due to unforeseen circumstances.

Will Temporary Replacements Also Be Eligible For Retention As Per This New Rule?

Players signed as temporary replacements after the Rescheduled IPL 2025 will not be eligible for retention ahead of the IPL 2026 season. The new measure is aimed at preventing teams from using these replacement signings to avoid the IPL auction process rather than signing for genuine reasons.

The New Rules Sent By The IPL League To The Franchises Are As Follows:

“In view of the unavailability of foreign players of some of the teams due to national commitments or any of their personal reasons or any serious injury or illness, temporary replacement players will be allowed till the final phase of this season.”

“This new decision is subject to the condition that the temporary replacement players taken ahead of this season cannot be eligible for retention in the next year of this exciting tournament. The temporary replacement players for this season will have to register for the IPL Player Auction IPL 2026.”

The four players who signed before the suspension as per the new rules are Sediqullah Atal of Delhi Capitals, Mayank Agarwal of Royal Challengers Bangalore, Luan-Dre Pretorius and Nandre Berger of Rajasthan Royals.
